We therefore commit to providing a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment for everyone, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, socio-economic status, religion, or belief.

This Code of Conduct expresses our expectations for participants in our community as well as the consequences of unacceptable behavior.

We invite everyone who participates in our events to help us create safe and positive experiences for all.

Expected behavior

  • Participate in an authentic and active way. Doing so contributes to the health and longevity of this community.
  • Exercise consideration and respect in your speech and actions.
  • Try to collaborate to avoid conflict.
  • Refrain from demeaning, discriminatory, or harassing speech and behavior.
  • Be mindful of your surroundings and of other participants. Alert community leaders if you notice a dangerous situation, someone in distress, or violations of this Code of Conduct, even if they seem minor.

Unacceptable behavior

Unacceptable behaviors include intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, demeaning, or degrading speech or actions. This applies to all participants in our online community, at events, and in personal communications made in the context of community activities. Community event venues may be shared with the public; please respect the rules of those venues.

Unacceptable behavior will not be tolerated from any community member, including sponsors and those with decision-making authority. Community members asked to stop any unacceptable behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in unacceptable behavior, community organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including temporary or permanent expulsion from the community without notice (and without refund in the case of paid events).

If you witness or are subject to unacceptable behavior

If you are subject to or witness unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please notify a community organizer as soon as possible. You can find a list of organizers to contact for each community supporting this Code of Conduct at the bottom of this page.

Organizers are available to help participants contact local law enforcement or otherwise help those experiencing unacceptable behavior feel safe. For in-person events, organizers will also provide escorts as needed.

Grievances

If you feel you have been falsely or unfairly accused of violating this Code of Conduct, please notify an event organizer with a concise description of your grievance. It will be reviewed and resolved in accordance with existing policies.

Scope

We expect all community participants (contributors —paid or unpaid—, sponsors, and other guests) to abide by this Code of Conduct in all community venues —online and in person— as well as in one-to-one communications related to community activities.
